Mavericks History

The Metroplex Mavericks Show Ski Team originated in 1990 as the Mustang Canyon Show Ski Team, skiing at Las Colinas, Irving, Texas until the end of the 2000 season.

The show ski team started the 2001 season practicing from April through June at a new location, Terry Park in Heath, Texas, on lake Ray Hubbard.  In June of 2001 the show team merged with the Metroplex Ski Club of Forth Worth, Texas and adopted the ski club name as part of the team name becoming the Metroplex Mavericks Show Ski Team.  Currently, the team practices at the Metroplex Ski Club complex at Marine Creek lake in Forth Worth, Texas.

Show skiing is truly a family sport and many of our team members are related.  We have fathers and sons/daughters, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, and young singles who partipate in our clinics, shows and social activities throughout the year – We even have had one marriage between two of our team members.

The sport of show skiing is open to all ages.  Our skiers range from 8 to 64 years of age!  Even folks who do not water-ski are actively involved with the club.  We have boat drivers, spotters, dock personnel, sound technicians, announcers, script writers, photographers and members who make show costumes.  They are all needed to bring you, our audience, an entertaining and successful show.

Speaking of success, the team has won 1st place in three of the last four South Central Show Ski Tournaments!

Like to join our club?  We have an open membership – there is a place here for everyone!
