The US Open Waterski Championships were held at Lago Santa Fe, TX this past weekend, and what a great even to attend!  Getting to Lago took a while, but it was well worth the effort!  I met many of the residents who were very nice and hospitable.  I also was able to meet and speak personally to many great athletes including Andy Mapple, Kristi Overton Johnson, Regina Jacquess, Rhoni Barton, Chris Rossi, Wade Cox, Jeff Rogers, Chris Parrish, Jennifer Leachman, Marina Mosti, Jarrett Llewellyn, Jimmy Siemers, Danyelle Bennett, and even Ryan Fitts' 8-year old cousin!

Anyways, here are the results:

Overall:  Rhoni Barton  won her fourth U.S. Open Women's overall title with 2,910.7 points, and Jaret Llewellyn won his second U.S. Open overall title with 2828.1 points.

Women's Slalom:  Karen Truelove won her second consecutive U.S. Open Women's slalom title with 4 buoys at 38 feet off.  Emma Sheers with 3-1/2 at 38 off.  Natalie Hamrick ran 2-1/2 at 38 and Michelle Simpson ran 2-1/2 at 38 who finished third and fourth, respectively.

Men's Slalom: Slalom king Andy Mapple won his third consecutive and 11th U.S. Open Men's slalom title, running 2-1/2 at 41 off. Jamie Beauchesne ran 2 at 41 and Chris Rossi ran 2 at 41 finishing second and third, respectively.  The biggest disappointments were that Chris Parrish did not qualify to the finals Saturday when he failed to complete his 39½ off pass and on Sunday when top seed Jeff Rogers failed to complete his 39½ off pass which did not give him a shot at beating Andy Mapple.

Women's Jump: Emma Sheers won her second consecutive and fifth U.S. Open Women's jumping title. She went 180 feet for the victory. Marina Mosti came in second with a 162-foot jump.  Rhoni finished third in jumping with 161 feet.

Men's Jump: Jaret went 225 feet to win his second U.S. Open jumping title.  Jimmy Siemers set a pending world jumping record of 235 feet in the semifinals and finished second overall with 2,804.9 points (was the runner-up in jump 224 feet and tricks 10,980 points).

Women's Tricks: Mandy Nightingale scored 7,360 points to win her first U.S. Open Women's tricks title.  Rhoni finished runner-up in tricks with 7,240 points and defending champion Regina Jaquess was third with 2,818 points.

Men's Tricks:  Nicolas Le Forestier won his first U.S. Open tricks championship with 11,440 points.  Jimmy Siemers finished second with 10,980 points, followed by Jaret with 10460.   Big disappoinment was when five-time defending champion Cory Pickos fell on his first trick of his second pass and finished sixth with 5,450 points.
